One word. Homecoming.

One word. Homecoming. Everyone that knows me knows that I'm obsessed with Beyonce. I just love her work ethic and that she commits 100% to whatever she does AND does it well. I saw online about her Netflix film and please believe, my break from work was re-living Beychella. Just the energy I needed for my day. I love that she dropped it around this years Coachella  - just to remind people how sick she was. But what I really love is how she is showing the world black culture and in it's best light. It just reminded me how far we've come but also how much harder we have to work to be seen in the best light. It just pushes me to do better. Speaking of culture, there's a whole situation with UK YA authors and white authors trying to write stories using Black and Asian people's cultures. Listen it's 2019. How are people still confused about this? Stop trying to make money from other people's cultures! Black people have dealt with this for years but what I was ...

It's 2018 and I am officially done with this diversity issue

This blog is a bit different than my usual stuff and it's an issue that really gets under my skin. Don't worry my usually funny blog will be posted by Tuesday but just need to share this. If you're in the book world, you'll know there is a massive issue with diversity. Well this is mine and Helen's (my fab business partner's response to it). If you agree with what we're saying, let us know. There needs to be some serious changes and we are determined to make it happen. My response CLPE reported that last year only 4% of children's books had a Black or Asian character and only 1% was a lead. I honestly read that and felt my heart break. Why are we having so many conversations talking about change and then this is the report we see, based on books just from last year? https://clpe.org.uk/sites/default/files/News%20release%20-%20Reflecting%20Realities%20-%20new%20study%20calls%20for%20better%20ethnic%20representation%20in%20children%27s%20book...

I think Kanye West has a crush on Beyonce

First blog of 2015!! Hope everyone has had a great start to the year and over the January blues. The weather was so awful so glad it's warming up a bit. Got lots to tell you lot! One of my new years resolutions was to do less dance and more writing. I really want to get to a point where the publishing community see my name so much they are sick of it! So I have two brand new ideas that's all to help YOU amazing story tellers The first one is called The Author School, which is for three different types of people. 1 - dream of writing a book but  have no idea how to even start their story. 2 - people who have written their book and now their thinking should I self publish? Get an agent? How do I do either of those? 3 - the published authors but what to do once the book is out? There's still so much to do once you're published That's why me and my PR Helen Lewis, want to educate everyone. I'm soooo excited!!! And the best thing is you're getting a truck...

I'm Back In The Game People!

We lost another great person. Maya Angelou. Her words will forever live on and continue to inspire people. It's going to be so awesome seeing who God raises up to be the greats of this generation. Ever feel like you are being pulled in a million different directions? That's where I am right now but it's a good place to be in as long as I can manage it better. I was reading over my past blogs and it's so interesting to see how far I've come. I started this blog as a way to gain confidence in my writing before I released a book and I'm so glad I carried it on as I can see my growth. Thank you to everyone who takes the time to read my blogs. So I have had the most epic idea for Emily. See right now I'm waiting on the phone call that tells me I have a publishing deal and the first book is already out in the world, so I've been thinking about what can I do in the mean time to still engage with my readers, write but not have to self-publish a book. I am no...
